Announced during the Automobile Club de l’Ouest press conference on June 16th which took place in the Musée des 24 Heures, the date of the 85th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 17-18, 2017) was confirmed yesterday by the FIA World Motor Sport Council.
The date of the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council
In addition to the date of the 24 Hours and Test Day (June 4, 2017), the World Motor Sport Council approved changes to the technical regulations for LM P1 prototypes entered by private teams. In other words, an increase in the width of the rear spoiler and the front part of the body, a minimum weight reduced to 830 kg, only one fuel flowmeter, more torque meters, no limit on the number of engines utilized and no restrictions on engine capacity.
The ACO having indicated during the press conference the importance of the involvement of private outfits, the goal of these modifications is to reduce the performance gap between the hybrid LM P1s entered by manufacturers and their counterparts without energy recovery systems reserved for private teams. The new regulations will take effect next year.
